Tsawwassen First NationPublic Works SupervisorRegular Full TimeTsawwassen First Nation (TFN), a member of Metro Vancouver, is making their mark in BC?s lower mainland with multimillion-dollar retail, industrial, and residential investments on TFN lands TFN is seeking a qualified Public Works Supervisor to join our Municipal Infrastructure Department on a regular full-time basis. The Public Works Supervisor, with the assistance of the Public Works Foreperson, is responsible for overseeing Public Works operations and maintenance programs and the safe deployment of its team. This position reports to the Manager of Public Works and Utilities Responsibilities Oversees the maintenance and repair of roads, boulevards, parks, and landscaping to ensure they are safe and aesthetically pleasing Coordinates and participates in the installation and maintenance of signs and open channel drainage systems Manages garbage collection and park maintenance to ensure cleanliness and usability Monitors and evaluates operations of public works? functions. Recommends and implements policy and procedure improvements and modifications on a proactive and as needed basis Participates in budget preparation and administration for the public works functions. Prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations, submits justifications for staffing and resources requests, and monitors and controls expenditures on an on-going basis Ensures that standard operating procedures, safety protocols, and associated record keeping practices are in place and kept up to date Other Duties Directly participates in the maintenance and repair of public works infrastructure, including roads and landscaping Prepares, implements, and evaluates processes and procedures to maintain service levels Assists with hands-on installation and inspection of public works? installations Creates annual work plans and schedules Manage and evaluate the work of staff, consultants, and contractors Help select and train staff, conduct performance reviews, resolve conflicts, promote shared goals, motivate and guide staff to achieve successful outcomes, and handle disciplinary actions if required Address health and safety issues promptly Advise the Manager of Public Works and Utilities and help prepare reports for Council Review and inspect public works installations and services Coordinate with the TFN Utilities Division for maintenance services as related to assigned duties Participate in continuous education through ongoing study of regulations, procedures, workshops, and training Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications A minimum of 10 years of experience, with 5 years in a supervisory role, in a municipal public works setting Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by technical courses related to the work Experience effectively supervising employees and contractors Experience in the maintenance and repair of roads, landscaping, and other public works infrastructure Proven ability to perform hands-on public works tasks and lead a team in the field Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices for public works operations Budget management skills and ability to determine cost effective solutions Flexibility in managing changing priorities and ability to work with minimum supervision Competent in use of Microsoft Office suite Strong safety record and focus on safe work practices essential Ability to read Municipal plans Ability to communicate effectively, maintain positive public relations and excellent customer service and problem-solving skills Ability to work in a team environment displaying leadership, positive work ethic, integrity, and the ability to follow direction effectively Public Works Supervisor may be required to respond to, or ensure a suitably qualified employee is available, to respond to unplanned time sensitive events, alarms and emergencies outside of regular work hours Valid Class 5 BC Drivers?
