Mack Construction Services Ltd. is a leader in telecommunications infrastructure, fiber optic network deployments, and civil construction. We are a turnkey utility construction company, specializing in horizontal directional drilling (HDD), hydrovac, excavating, trenching, fiber splicing, and underground utility construction in the telecom, utility, and pipeline industry. We are currently seeking a skilled *Backhoe Operator* to operate on fiber optic and utility installation projects.
*Job Summary:*
The Backhoe Operator is responsible for safely operating equipment on job sites in Saskatchewan. This role supports the construction and installation of underground utilities and fiber infrastructure, working closely with foremen and crews to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Operate backhoe and potentially other equipment including skid steers, mini excavators, and related equipment for civil construction tasks.
* Perform trenching, backfilling, grading, and restoration work in various environments.
* Assist with loading/unloading materials, job site prep, and cleanup as required.
* Conduct daily equipment inspections and ensure proper maintenance and reporting.
* Follow utility locate markings, avoid buried infrastructure, and dig safely around existing utilities.
* Collaborate with field crews to maintain project timelines and quality standards.
* Adhere to all company safety policies and participate in tailgate meetings.
* Support ground crews with manual tasks when not operating equipment.
*Qualifications & Experience:*
* *Must have a Class 3 License- with a Clean Drivers Abstract (class 1 an asset)*
* 2+ years of experience operating construction equipment in utility or civil work.
* Proficiency with small to mid-size machinery (skid steers, mini excavators, min hoe, backhoes, etc.).
* Experience operating tandem-axle units (dump trucks, slinger trucks, hydrovacs, water trucks, bore trucks, etc.) an asset.
* Understanding of utility locate markings, trenching safety, and underground work.
* Ability to work in a physically demanding outdoor environment in various weather conditions.
* Required Tickets ? CSTS, Ground Disturbance Level II, and First Aid (other tickets including Confined Space, H2S, Fall Pro, etc. is an asset)
* Mechanical knowledge/skills is an asset.
