*POSITION SUMMARY*
Reporting to the CFO, the Accounting Manger is accountable for the full range of accounting cycle duties and responsibilities, focused upon the financial and operational accounting transactions for the company and 3 subsidiaries. The Accounting Manager is accountable for managing a team consisting of an Intermediate Accountant, and Accounts Receivable Clerk. This role will support the CFO in the financial affairs of the organization including, budgeting, accounting, reporting, investment, financing, insurance, and tax activities. The position ensures effective financial governance, the accurate reflection of business activities in the company?s records.
*MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES*
· Perform month-end and year-end close
· Prepare/review financial statements and associated management report package
· Prepares financial analyses and reports to assist senior team in effective management decision making
· Review monthly financial results with department managers
· Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations
· Prepare accounting entries in accordance with established accounting principles, transfer pricing policies and procedures
· Prepare and assist with year end tax filing and review engagement with external auditors. Ensure all company returns are accounted for and filed before deadline
· Manage the day-to-day work of the accounting team.
· Support the CFO in the preparation of annual budget
· Complete Canadian and US tax filings (GST/HST, PST, EHT, US state sales tax) according to legislative requirement
· Prepare/Monitor weekly cash flow forecast and oversee fund transfer/EFT/Wire payments. Make recommendations to CFO as required.
· Monitor daily banking transactions
· Review monthly/quarterly/annually commission and calculate bonus payout
· Review AP invoices and approve payments to vendors
· Assist / record keep company department KPI spreadsheet
· Manage Pricing changes and monitor and review product costing.
· Maintain Capital Assets Amortization Schedule
· Maintain Accounting SOPs and ensure sufficient coverage for the accounting department when a team member goes on vacation
· In conjunction with CFO, review, develop, ensure internal controls are in place within the company.
· Participate in or leads financial accounting projects
· Leading the ad-hoc requests by various departments on a daily basis
· Perform other duties and projects as required
· Develop and ensure accounting team achieves annual KPIs
· Ensures the efficient processing, recording and reconciliation of all payments, accounts receivable transactions, general ledger entries, changes to capital assets, and payroll; ensures the appropriate application of accounting principles and the accurate reflection of business activities in the records and books of account
· Team establishes strong working relationships with Customers regarding their credit arrangements; manages the credit function including granting credit, monitoring accounts receivables, preparing credit exposure reports and coordinating collection action
· Primary administering payroll system, biweekly Canada and semi-weekly US, all other payroll related functions up to and including responding to payroll discrepancies, generating payroll reports, off cycles, benefits, generate ROE as needed, T4s, and other payroll related enquiries. Monthly bonus calculations, processing monthly commissions.
· Administers benefit plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations and reconciles monthly benefits statements. [KS1]
· Manages the activities of the accounting department, manages performance and development, resolves employee issues and hires and terminates staff as necessary.
*KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES*
· Accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA) is required
· 5+ years of proven and successful accounting experience, preferably with financial statement preparation, statutory reporting, staff management, and account reconciliations
