We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced *Accounting Manager* to join our multinational organization. This individual will play a key role in overseeing tax compliance, financial statement preparation, and general accounting operations.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of accounting principles, tax regulations (US, Canada, UK), and financial reporting, as well as experience in a manufacturing environment. This role also involves managing a general accountant and collaborating across departments to ensure financial accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and supporting schedules.
* Manage and supervise general accounting activities, including performance oversight of a General Accountant.
* Coordinate month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy of journal entries and reconciliations.
* Analyze financial information and provide insightful commentary on variances and trends.
* Prepare and review complex accruals, including payroll and recurring journal entries.
* Maintain and reconcile fixed asset schedules; track projects for capitalization and manage depreciation entries.
* Ensure proper intercompany accounting, including balancing, elimination entries, and schedule maintenance.
* Manage compliance with state, provincial, federal, and international tax requirements (sales tax, HST, VAT, etc.), including coordination of tax returns and payments.
* Support external audit and tax engagements, including preparation of documentation and responses.
* Load and validate monthly financial data in consolidation/reporting systems, ensuring proper roll-up and elimination of intercompany transactions.
* Calculate FX revaluations for non-subledger accounts.
* Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing key financial insights and ensuring alignment with actuals within area.
* Develop, document, and continuously improve accounting policies, internal controls, and business processes.
* Ensure all balance sheet accounts are accurately reconciled and reviewed monthly.
* Coordinate SRED claims and assist with other regulatory filings, such as Statistics Canada and environmental reporting.
* Provide input into departmental goal-setting and contribute to cross-functional financial improvements.
*Required Qualifications & Skills*
* CPA or CMA designation (preferred) with a Bachelor?s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
* 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or finance, including experience as a Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or Accounting Manager.
* Strong knowledge of GAAP and tax regulations in Canada, the US, and the UK (UK is an asset).
* Proven experience in financial statement preparation and tax support (in collaboration with external firms).
* Hands-on experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUPs, SUMIFs, PivotTables).
* Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Demonstrated ability to manage month-end processes, audits, fixed assets, intercompany accounting, and regulatory compliance.
* Experience in a manufacturing environment is strongly preferred.
* Effective communicator with the ability to liaise across departments and regions.
